Digital Painting in Krita A Simple Still Life with a Focus on Texture

Description

In this course I will show you how to digitally paint a simple still life using the free open source software Krita. I will demonstrate some of my techniques to create an “alla prima” style painting (a painting technique in which a canvas is completed in one session).
I will also demonstrate how you can take a simple painting or plain painting and give it a more organic appearance by adding a photographic texture overlay. It sounds complicated but is quite simple.
I highly encourage you to get your hands on a drawing tablet. You can start out with an inexpensive tablet for as little as $40. You will also need patience and a willingness to make mistakes.

Project Guide

Use the photograph of the watermelon as reference then create a digital painting. After the painting portion is completed apply one of the textural images that I included or use your own photograph.
Creating Your Project: You should download the image of the watermelon in the Resources area to use are reference. Of course you can choose an image of your own or use a real object from life to draw from. I recommend that you watch each step in the process, then paint after each step so that the ideas are fresh in your mind. But, if you would rather paint your piece in one continuous flow, watch all of the videos then make your digital painting.
Sharing Your Work: When you are finished, save your file as a JPG or a PNG. Then share (upload) your work to the Create Project area in the side bar. Note: When you upload to the project area the image might get cropped because it is a preview image. If that happens, upload it a second time and the second image will show the entire image.
Feedback: Now sit back and wait for feedback from me and others in the class. And don’t be shy, if someone in the class does a nice job, please let them know!
